∆∆∆∆∆ New From Alt-J ∆∆∆∆∆

Ever since I heard the eclectic voice Joe Newman, I couldn't stop listening. I saw them this past year at Wrex The Halls in San Diego and was even more blown away by their heart pounding bass sound. They were one of the best live bands I have heard.

I have connected a few times with Thom (drummer) on twitter a few times. It is always special when band members take time to reply to their fans.

The band recently released two new songs off their up coming album, Hunger Of The Pine and Left Hand Free. Both are very different from their previous album An Awesome Wave but still have that new, never heard before sound of Alt-J. Left Hand Free has a sort of 60's throwback vibe, some say it reminds them of The Black Keys which I could kinda see but I don't believe you should compare musicians to other musicians. This song has more of a guitar sound than any of their other songs and is less dominated by the drums. Hunger Of The Pine has more of the original ∆ sound because all the sounds blend together and sound as one unit, to the point where its hard to point out which instruments are making what noises, this is why I love Alt-J.

Their music is so different that it makes me ponder about their inspiration. Various interviews have revealed that much of their songs are music translations of love and hallucinogens. Here's my favorite interview where they discuss Joe's use of shrooms while he was at the university.

PS I would highly recommend watching Blogotheque videos on youtube! They have a large variety of artists.
